Duo debut on Crescent radio

Date published: 19 September 2013

Tony Bullock, who is on a voluntary work placement at Hopwood Hall College, recently made his debut appearance on Crescent Radio along with the College’s Work Experience Co-ordinator Bev Harmstone.

Tony and Bev were invited to the Crescent Radio Station in Rochdale to promote a new  support service for forces personnel and their families who are in transition from employment within the military into civilian life, which is being run in partnership with the Ministry of Defence.

The live phone-in shows were hosted by Nasrine Akhtar. Listeners were encouraged to ring into the show and send emails and text enquiries and the subject matter generated lots of interest from the listeners. Nasrine said: “It was a pleasure to help promote what the College has to offer the local community and we were excited to invite them back again yesterday. ”

Tony, from Salford, volunteered at the College as he wanted to gain an insight into the education sector prior to joining the teaching profession and has been shadowing the employer engagement team to get some experience. He says he has really been enjoying his time at the College and was thrilled to be asked to go on the radio show to talk about it. He commented: “I recognise the value of volunteering and the benefits it can bring.

"My placement has given me the opportunity to add to my CV and I am sure it will assist with my future employment prospects.

"My time spent at the College has been informative and I have gained a better understanding of the types of careers within the education sector and I really enjoyed being able to talk about it to other people on the radio and give them advice about expanding their horizons.”
