Heritage Open Day: Holy Trinity Church
Date published: 14 September 2013
Holy Trinity Church, Middleton was open to visitors for the heritage open weekend.
Architect George Shaw of Saddleworth designed Holy Trinity Church in 1862, with the pews and lectern also designed by him.
Glenys Turner, from the church, said: “People usually come and see the stained glass windows that we have.”
There are 15 stained glass windows in the church dating over 100 years.
People were also able to look at old birth, deaths and marriage registries.
One visitor said: “It was my church when I was at school. Its full of memories and its only when you move away that you realise how important it is.”
This weekend has been the third heritage open day that the church has been involved in. Glenys added: “We do it to try and get people in to have a look at the building but this weekend has unfortunately been the slowest out of the three years.”
