Thought about quitting smoking? Heard about 'Stoptober'?
Date published: 09 September 2013
Stoptober - the 28-day national stop smoking challenge - is set to return following its launch in October 2012.
Stopping smoking for 28 days means you're five times more likely to stop for good and last year over 160,000 people successfully quit in the nation's biggest mass participation stop smoking challenge ever.
Stoptober starts on 1 October and provides a wide range of support, guidance and encouragement for smokers wishing to attempt to go smokefree for 28 days, and maybe longer.
Stoptober will provide a range of free advice and support throughout your stop smoking attempt, and is based on research that smokers are five times more likely to stay smokefree if they successfully make it through the first four weeks.
As soon as you join Stoptober, you'll start receiving as much (or as little) support as you want to keep you on track. All Stoptober support is free and includes:
A Stoptober pack full of information and resources to help you quit
A 28-day mobile phone app and a text message service that both provide motivational pick-me-ups
Detailed tools and tips for coping, as well as the encouragement and support from thousands of people going through the same thing
