Chris Johnson, 41, died after slashing his own throat in front of his family in the garden of his home on Mitton Close in Heywood.

It is understood police were called at about 3pm on Thursday 5 September 2013 following a domestic row and found Mr Johnson holding glass to his neck. Officers attempted to negotiate with him but he stabbed himself in the neck as his partner Caroline Hawcroft, 35, and their daughter looked on from the kitchen window.

He was taken to hospital for treatment where he died a short time later.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "At about 3pm on Thursday 5 September 2013, police were called to an address on Mitton Close in Heywood to reports of an incident.

"Officers attended to find a 41-year-old man holding glass to his neck. Officers attempted to negotiate with him but he inflicted an injury to his neck.

"He was taken to hospital for treatment where he sadly died a short time later.
