Hamer Community Primary School

Date published: 06 September 2013

Welcome back to another school year at Hamer. It has been fantastic to see all the children safe and well and in school this week. For those of you who celebrated Eid over the summer holidays we hope you enjoyed your celebrations with your friends and families. Thank you for your support with school uniform. The children all look incredibly smart as part of our School Community and we are all looking forward to another successful year.

As you know, a number of new staff joined our team this year. I am sure you will join in with welcoming the following members of staff into our School Community.

Mrs Hatcliffe - KS1 TLR (Unit Leader)
Miss Page - KS1 Newly Qualified Teacher
Miss Graham - UK2 TLR (Unit Leader)
Miss Weaver - School Direct Teacher Trainee
Mrs Bingham - Numbers Count Teacher (Maths Intervention

In addition, Mr Khan now also has additional teaching and learning responsibilities (TLR) for ICT provision across the school.

As you will know as a school we continue to implement improvement plans to raise standards in Numeracy. Yesterday, Dave Godfrey ‘Mr Number Fun’ came into school and delivered workshops for staff and children in all four units. He will be working in partnership with the school over the course of the year to further develop the schools approach to teaching mental maths strategies. We are sure that the chldren will sing you some of the songs that we have all learnt.

It is vital that we always have up to date emergency contact details for every child. If your mobile number, landline or address changes it is parents/carers responsibility to inform the school office as soon as possible. In addition, please ensure that all telephone numbers given are ones that will be answered when rung. Thank you for ensuring we have the necessary details so that we are able to effectively communicate with you during the school day if this is necessary.

Due to room timetabling, there will be some changes to the timings of parent classes. These will now take place on:

Monday 2.00pm – 3.00pm (How your Child Learns)
Thursday 9.15am – 10.30am (How your Child Learns)
Friday 9.15am – 10.15am – Keep Fit

The children in Years 3 and 4 kicked off the Autumn Term entry points this afternoon for their ‘Dinosaur’ topic. The children enjoyed building the foundations for their forthcoming learning and even glimpsed dinosaurs in action through ‘Jurassic Park’! We look forward to celebrating their ‘Dinosaur’ writing success in the coming weeks!

The children in Year 4 will start their statutory swimming curriculum on Monday 9th September . All children will be taught this basic life skill through lessons at Rochdale Swimming Baths. Specific information has been sent out to Year 4 children regarding kit. Any further queries, please do not hesitate to talk to Mrs Smith, Mrs Kershaw, Mrs Casey or any other member of the Lower Key Stage Two Team.

Celebration Assemblies for ‘Star of the Week’, ‘Citizens of the Week’, Attendance Awards and other successes will begin again next Friday 13 September at 9.10am. In addition, Thursday class assemblies will begin on Thursday 19 September. It was brilliant to see so many of you every week during the last academic year and look forward to your support again this year. Remember – you are welcome to any of these assemblies, even if your child is not directly involved. Come along and joint our celebrations!
