Hamer Community Primary School & Pennine in Bloom Competition

Certificate of achievement in the schools competition 2013 for effort and creativity in the “All About Herbs”
Further to our previous success in this competition held annually in July, Mrs Cunnew and Miss Mills classes entered the Pennine in Bloom competition, this year the theme was Herbs.
The children had to plant some herbs based on their own design and create a garden and a corresponding recipe book. They researched herb recipes on the internet and wrote their own recipe book and decorated the pages with pictures they had also designed for each dish.
In a French lesson, the children decided to add a twist by looking up the French words for the herbs we had planted in our herb garden.
The children really enjoyed this activity which combined other areas of the curriculum including language, art and literacy.
We are very pleased and proud to say that we were awarded a certificate of achievement in the schools competition 2013 for effort and creativity in the “All About Herbs” competition together with a £50 voucher to spend at a Garden Centre which we will use as part of our outdoor curriculum.
