Rochdale through the lens

Date published: 05 September 2013

Rochdale Borough Libraries are challenging photographers to capture the best of what the borough has to offer in a single shot.

Professionals and complete novices are being asked to send in their favourite snaps of scenes across Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale and Pennines that they believe are worth celebrating.

Judges are on the hunt for 18 unique digital pictures that will feature in a special online gallery as part of the Rochdale Ideas & Literature festival website. The overall winner will take a cash prize of £50 courtesy of Rochdale Co-operative Members’ Group. Once displayed on the website, local poets will be invited to use the images as inspiration for a poetry competition. The 18 selected images, plus the winning poems, will feature in a Gallery One exhibition at Touchstones later this year.

Peter Williams, cabinet member for economic development and customer services (including libraries) at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The theme ‘I say it as I see it’ is open to wide interpretation on purpose. We want people to express their creativity. However, the image must have been taken within the borough. Think scenes of people, landscapes, architecture, even local wildlife. Rochdale through a lens can give us all a new, exciting perspective.”

Digital photographs can be taken on cameras, mobile phones and even computer tablets. The images must be of a high resolution quality and submitted via the festival website.

Closing date for entries is midnight on 7 October 2013. Entrants must be 16 years and over. Three images can be entered per person. Please make sure you check the full rules of entry before submitting your photographs.
