Lost and Found Pets Rochdale

Date published: 03 September 2013

A group of Rochdale residents have set up a Facebook group to help people find their missing pets and to warn them of scams to steal dogs.

Lost and Found Pets Rochdale was set up on Facebook yesterday (1 September) and already has over 300 members. Tracy said: “We post information from dog wardens about missing pets and people can post their own information in there as well.”

Tracy is also keen to keep people informed of scams involving the theft of dogs. Currently Tracy is aware of a number of scams operating in the Rochdale area. She said: “There is one were people put a blue dot on the gate or door to let people know to come back for the dog, or another one that involves the door being marked with a chalked letter K.”

Another scam in operation involves the dog being stolen and a lady phoning the owners asking for money for the dog. When Tracy was looking for her missing dog, she received a phone call from a lady claiming that she had the dog but had to pay £280 for him and wanted the money. The police advised the family not to pay and are currently looking into the matter.

“If a pet goes missing, people need to make them hot and post it all over Facebook and the internet. That way it makes it impossible for the people stealing the dogs to walk with them” added Tracy.

Since his disappearance and campaign to find him, Yoda has become a local celebrity in the area and now has his own Facebook page so people can see that he is safe and well, as well as having people talking about him and coming to the family home to check on him.

“This has really brought people together and hopefully the group can help more people” said Tracy.
