Jason Jones hitting the airwaves

Date published: 27 August 2013

A young unemployed man with learning difficulties is hitting the radio airwaves.

Jason Jones, 24, is getting ready to produce and present a show about football on Stockport’s Pure FM at the end of September.

Jason is supported by the charity Alternative Futures Group (AFG) in Rochdale which has teamed up with Pure Innovations, a not-for-profit organisation which helps people get into work and access community and leisure activities.

Earlier this year Alternative Futures Group commissioned Pure Innovations to work closely with a number of people who it supports within the Rochdale area, to help them access education, training and work opportunities.

Jenny Newell, Pure Innovations’ Employment Officer, said: “It’s hugely satisfying to see how each individual progresses as they make decisions about their futures and where they want be.”

Kelly Thomas, Area Manager of AFG Rochdale said: “In just a couple of months there are already examples of the people we support being given jobs in local businesses, learning new skills and going to college to study.”
