Apply for school places online

Date published: 27 August 2013

Parents of children resident in Rochdale who are due to start school in September 2014 will be able to apply a school place for next year using an online application system - available from 1 September 2013.

The online application process makes it easy for parents to register and apply for places at primary and secondary schools. This will not replace the current application process, but offer parents a quicker, easier and way to apply.

Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet member for Children, Schools and Families at Rochdale Borough Council, said:
“The online system is a simple, step-by-step process and is no more difficult than completing the paper application form but has many more benefits.”

To use the online application system families will need access to the internet and use a valid email address. If they do not have access or an email address, they will be able to use the public computers at any Rochdale library and staff will be able to help them set up an email account if they need this.

Early Help and Schools Assistant Director Sandra Bowness said: “I encourage families to use the online system as it makes the process much quicker and responsive.”

The online applications system will enable families to get their applications in earlier. Late applications often result in children not getting into their preferred school, having to travel further to attend school or siblings going to different schools.

The whole application process will be done electronically. Once an application is made online all further communication will be via email until an offer of a place is made when families will receive an email as well as an offer in writing.

During the application process families will be able to change their choice as long as this is done before the closing date (Primary School applications 15 January 2014, Secondary School applications 31 October 2013). Email notifications of any applications and changes are sent automatically to the applicant.
