New affordable homes for Langley

Building work has started on a scheme of 21 new homes that will boost the supply of affordable housing in Langley, Middleton. 

The homes, a mix of bungalows and two-storey houses, are to be made available for affordable rent and will regenerate a vacant 1.3 acre site on the corner of Wood Street and Mosedale Road.

The two, three and four-bedroom properties have been designed by Croft Goode Architects on behalf of social housing provider Riverside. They will benefit from gardens and off street parking with a cul-de-sac providing vehicle access to the site.

David Croft, a director of Croft Goode Architects, said: “This scheme will bring high quality housing to the local area, revitalising a vacant piece of land and also complementing existing properties.

"The homes will use sustainable materials and technologies throughout and have been designed to have large windows in main rooms to make the most of natural light.”

Carol Kershaw, assistant director of Riverside, said: “We are pleased to be working with Croft Goode Architects on the delivery of these much needed houses in Langley.

"The Wood Street scheme meets the specific demands identified within the local community. We have worked closely with the architects and the community to design homes that meet the needs of our customers.”

Croft Goode are also working with Riverside to develop another 20 properties for affordable rent on a site on the nearby Helvellyn Drive.

The homes at Wood Street are expected to be completed by 13 December.
