Las Vegas spectacular for the Wheatsheaf charity ball

Date published: 06 June 2013

The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre annual charity ball will this year benefit as the shopping centre has renewed its partnership with the Hospice.

This year’s ball, at the Mercure Norton Grange Hotel, promises to be the most spectacular event yet.

The theme is Las Vegas and starts off with limousine photo opportunities for the arriving guests, along with a bevy of showgirls who will perform routines throughout the night, as well as looking after the attendees.

After the three course meal the King of Rock & Roll, ‘Elvis’, or at least his look-a-like, will take to the stage and entertain the audience before making way for an auction with superb prizes, such as an Adam West signed and framed Batman shot, an Eric Cantona signed captain’s armband from a Man United game and a huge Muhammad Ali print signed by the gentle giant himself.

Shopping Centre Manager, Martin Ballard spoke about why the relationship with Springhill Hospice has been rekindled: "The Hospice is one of the most inspiring places in the borough – the level of effort that goes in from every single member of staff or volunteer is truly inspiring, and the service they have provided and continue to provide to so many of Rochdale families loved ones really is inspirational.

"Over the years we’ve had a strong relationship with the hospice and indirectly through our work with the Rochdale Hornets too, so it came as a natural choice to make them one of our two main charities for the year, with the other being the Air Ambulance’s Keep it Up Campaign, which I’ve supported for three years now.

"The hotel will provide the backdrop to the launch of the Charity Challenge for the year

"Last year’s task was a skydive, which we’ve so far been booked in for on six occasions but each one cancelled due to weather conditions, although the most alarming one was the cancellation due to a fault with the plane – at least they found out about that whilst it was on the ground

"This year’s top secret task will take place after the re-booked skydive and will be open to a lot more people, so keep your eyes peeled for details."
