Siddal Moor Spelling Bee
Date published: 14 May 2013
As part of the curriculum and for fun all forms took part in a Spelling Bee.
Two representatives from each year 7 form where hand-picked by their fellow students and competed against each other to be crowned top speller.
Students took part individually and were asked to spell as many words in 30 seconds as they could over 3 rounds, each time the spellings became more difficult till eventually only one remained. Each student that took part was presented with an Easter egg with the winner receiving the largest one.
French Spelling Bee
Miss Harris one of Siddal Moors’ foreign language teachers took students from Year 7 to Manchester Metropolitan University, for the first time to compete against different schools across the North West in ‘The French Spelling Bee 2013’.
Students from all schools competed against each other in 1 minute rounds with the highest scorer getting through to the next round.
All students performed amazingly but unfortunately only one student made it through to the second round where they were narrowly defeated and missed out on a trip to the finals that will be held in London. Better luck next time!
