Cartoon capers at children's centre

Date published: 18 March 2013

Children and families arriving at a community event in Rochdale recently were thrilled to be greeted by a pair of famous cartoon characters.

The much-loved Disney characters, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, appeared at Newbold Sure Start Children’s Centre on a surprise visit, to the delight of local pre-schoolers and their parents.

The mischievous duo invited children to have their photographs taken with them and to take part in a range of fun activities, including puppet making and expressive arts.

The session at the Sure Start Children’s Centre, which delivers play and learning activities for babies and children aged 0-4 years old as well as access for older siblings during the school holidays, ended with a dance performance by Mickey and Minnie in front of an enthralled audience.

The father of one two-year-old who took part in the event said: “It has been the best day for Zahra. She has been dancing with Mickey and Minnie and enjoyed it so much. It’s unbelievable, I’ve never seen her like this! I will bring Zahra all the time to Sure Start.”

Nine year old Destiny added: “I’ve had a lovely time. The best bit was getting my picture taken with Minnie and Mickey.”

Newbold Sure Start is one of 19 children’s centres which provide children under five years old and their families with a range of services and information all under one roof. They are designed to help children develop through a range of different play activities and also provide the opportunity for parents to attend groups and courses at the centre.
