Aaron Diskin promotes Whizz-Kidz charity

Date published: 18 March 2013

Aaron Diskin, a pupil at Wardle High School, visited London this week to attend the NHS Innovations Expo at the Excel Centre with the charity Whizz-Kidz.

Whizz-Kidz is a national charity that gives disabled children the independence to be themselves by providing them with customised mobility equipment, training and advice.

Having been given a wheelchair by Whizz-Kidz, Aaron was there to talk to everyone about his experiences and talk to different businesses to see if they could partner up with Whizz-Kidz to make the charity an even bigger success.

The Expo took place on the 13 and 14 March and brought together key decision makers from the academic, scientific, voluntary, private and public sectors to share and spread the latest innovations in healthcare. Whizz-Kidz were at the Expo to promote their paediatric mobility equipment service which ensures that young wheelchair users receive equipment that fully meets their needs, enabling them to lead more full and independent lives.

Aaron was given a wheelchair by Whizz-Kidz and has worked with the charity for a long time hoping to help other disabled children to get the equipment they need. There are an estimated 70,000 disabled children in the UK who are waiting for the right wheelchair, a wheelchair that will mean they can get up to all the things that kids like to do.

Whizz-Kidz give disabled kids the equipment, support and life skills they need to be just like any other kid. Whizz-Kidz provides disabled children with the essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods.

Since working with the charity Aaron has been able to take part in many exciting activies such as visiting the Hollyoaks set and talking to cast members and being on the evening news talking about his experiences. While at the Expo Aaron was fortunate enough to meet some celebrities like Angela Rippon which made his day even more exciting.

Before the Expo Mark Lovell contacted the school to say ‘I would also like to commend Aaron for the outstanding voluntary work he has undertaken for and on behalf of the charity.

Aaron is an outstanding and very likeable young person, whom I have personally seen develop since he first got involved with Whizz-Kidz, he displays a level of maturity and diligence way beyond his years; he is an asset to Whizz-Kidz and a powerful role model for other young disabled people.’

Aaron is hoping to continue his work with the charity in the future and hopefully go to the NHS Innovations Expo again next year.
