Information on current and forthcoming roadworks planned to take place across the borough.

Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair an electrical fault in the pavement of Whitehall Street
Expected start and finish: Friday 31 January 2025 – Friday 21 February 2025
Restriction and location: Whitehall Street: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with Industry Road and end at a point 10 metres away in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: Industry Road, Duke Street and Denton Street.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a defective chamber in Healey Lane
Expected start and finish: Tuesday 4 February 2025 – Tuesday 25 February 2025
Restriction and location: Healey Lane: a section is temporarily closed. The closure begins at the junction with Whitworth Road and ends at a point 45 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: Healey Lane and Whitworth Road.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a defective manhole in Norden Way
Expected start and finish: Tuesday 4 February 2025 – Tuesday 25 February 2025
Restriction and location: Norden Way: a section is temporarily closed. The closure starts at the junction with Harewood Road and ends at a point 35 metres away in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: Norden Way, Edenfield Road and Wolstenholme Lane.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a high voltage cable in Railway Approach
Expected start and finish: Wednesday 12 February 2025 – Wednesday 5 March 2025, or when complete if sooner.
Restriction and location: Railway Approach: a section has been temporarily closed. The closure starts at the junction with Manchester Road and ends at a point 8 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: Manchester Road, Samuel Street and Smalley Street.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install pedestrian crossing facilities on St Mary's Gate
Expected start and finish
- Westbound closure: 8pm–5am each night from Monday 24 February 2025 – Tuesday 4 March 2025
- Eastbound closure: 8pm–5am each night from Wednesday 5 March 2025 – Monday 17 March 2025
Restriction and location:
- St Mary's Gate (westbound): a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with John Street and end at the junction with Spotland Road.
- St Mary's Gate (eastbound): a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with Spotland Road and end at the junction with Whitworth Road.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Whitworth Road, Howard Street, Sheriff Street and Spotland Road.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install the new cycle way on Manchester Road
Expected start and finish: Monday, 10 March 2025 – Thursday 10 September 2026
Restriction and location: Manchester Road: a temporary speed limit of 30mph will be introduced along a section of this road. This will begin at the junction with Bolton Road and continue to St Mary's Gate in both directions.
Area: Rochdale
Reason: To carry out tree pruning on Norden Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 31 March 2025 – Friday 4 April 2025
Restriction and location: Norden Road: part of this road will be temporarily closed. The closure will start at the junction of Norden Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road and end at a point 295 metres away in a northerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Bury and Rochdale Old Road, War Office Road and Norden Road.
Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out bridge works - Boothroyden Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 11 August 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Boothroyden Road. This will start at a point 34 metres south of its junction with Boothroyden Close and continue for a distance of 27 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Area: Middleton
Reason: Temporary closure of Taylor Street
Expected start and finish: Thursday 23 January 2025 – Sunday 11 May 2025
Restriction and location: Taylor Street: temporary closure of this road, from the junction with Albert Street to the northern end.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Area: Middleton
Reason: To repair a frame and cover in Acresfield Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 10 February 2025 – Monday 3 March 2025 or when the works are complete if sooner.
Restriction and location: Acresfield Road: a section is temporarily closed. The closure begins at a point 110 metres north east of the junction with Stanycliffe Lane and ends at a point 35 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Heywood
Reason: To repair a burst water main in Manchester Road
Expected start and finish: Thursday 6 February 2025 – Thursday 27 February 2025
Restriction and location: Manchester Road: a section is temporarily closed. The closure starts at the junction with Sefton Road and ends at a point 32 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: Manchester Road, Manchester Street, Rochdale Road, Rochdale Road East and Green Lane.
Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a gas leak in Shore Road
Expected start and finish: Tuesday 21 January 2025 – Tuesday 11 February 2025
Restriction and location: Shore Road: a section is closed. The closure begins at a point 50 metres from the junction with Furness Avenue and runs to a point 20 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is signed on street.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking water main in Ribble Avenue
Expected start and finish: Friday 24 January 2025 – Friday 14 February 2025
Restriction and location: Ribble Avenue: a section has been closed. The closure begins at the junction with Hodder Avenue and ends at a point 10 metres away in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leaking service in the pavement on Cedar Lane
Expected start and finish: Sunday 2 February 2025 – Sunday 23 February 2025
Restriction and location: Cedar Lane: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at the junction with Laburnum Lane and end at a point 94 metres away in a south westerly direction.
Alternative route: Laburnum Lane, Sycamore Avenue and Cedar Lane.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a leak in Silver Hill
Expected start and finish: Saturday 8 February 2025 – Saturday 1 March 2025 or when complete if sooner.
Restriction and location: Silver Hill: a section is temporarily closed. The closure begins at the junction with Kiln Lane and ends at a point 18 metres away in a north westerly direction.
Alternative route: Kiln Lane, Wildhouse Lane, Croft Head Drive and Silver Hill.
Area: Pennines
Reason: To install a new water connection in the road and pavement of Princess Road
Expected start and finish: Monday 24 February 2025 – Wednesday 26 February 2025
Restriction and location: Princess Road: a section will be temporarily closed. The closure will begin at a point 54 metres from the junction with Heatley Road and end at a point 28 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Rochdale Road, Willows Lane and Heatley Road.
