The Conservatives Big Ask in Middleton

Date published: 15 January 2008

Middleton Conservatives have said they are very concerned with the poor turnout at the recent Middleton North by election, when only 19% of the electorate voted.

A spokesman for the party said: "We don't believe this to be the fault of the electorate but rather the failure of local politicians and we want to know where we are going wrong.

"It seems politicians are always telling people what they think is good for them, so for a change, Middleton Conservatives have decided simply to ask.

"We are conducting a survey of North Middleton and calling it the Big Ask. We will be delivering 1000 leaflets to the area and we hope people will take the time and trouble to phone, write or email us with their reasons for not voting. They can be as frank as they like, we are grown ups and would rather face unpleasant truths than live in ignorance.

"It is a big ask for busy people to respond but Middleton Conservatives will take note of the electorate's views and it will help shape our future policies and campaigns.

"Middleton North has a good mix of properties typical of our town, so our survey will be a good opinion poll for other parts of Middleton that also has low turnouts at local elections."
