New appointment for Cherry Vann

Date published: 19 February 2013

Congratulations to Archdeacon Cherry Vann who was recently elected unopposed to become the Prolocutor of the Lower House of the Convocation of York. She succeeds Canon Glyn Webster following his resignation on his appointment as Bishop of Beverley.

The ancient and important office of Prolocutor (in effect the Chair of the House of Clergy in Synod) has taken on added significance with ex-officio membership of the Archbishops' Council and Standing Committee, and Archdeacon Vann will now represent Clergy of the Northern Province at a National level.

The Bishop of Middleton and the Bishop of Bolton welcomed the news: “We are sure we speak for the whole diocese when we congratulate Archdeacon Cherry on her election to this important position. Her election is a tribute to her inclusive style and rigorous work at the local and national level.”
