Schools co-operate for a bright future

Date published: 14 February 2013

Secondary schools and colleges in Rochdale have come together to form the Pioneers Trust to further raise educational standards in the area.

As the World Capital of Co-operatives, Rochdale is the ideal borough to have its schools working alongside one another for the benefit of current and future generations of pupils.

All 16 schools and colleges in the trust are co-operating in the development of a self-improving education system with the focus on enabling every school and college to achieve their full potential to ensure that all children in the borough receive an excellent education.

The schools will share best practice and drive through further improvements.

Christine Birchall, Operational Director for the Pioneers Trust, said: “The trust is a wonderful way of celebrating Rochdale’s status as the World Capital of Co-operatives and laying the foundations for the future.

“By coming together to share best practice we will be able to ensure that young people receive the start in life they deserve.”

Fittingly the trust was officially launched at the Pioneers Museum in Toad Lane, on the site where the Co-operative Movement was born in 1844.
