All Year 11 students were involved in a conference on Thursday which focused on thinking skills, attitude to learning, exam preparation and independent learning. All students came away with a pack of resources to help them in the coming months in the run up to external exams.

Could we please ask parents to visit the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) thinkuknow website, for help and advice in ensuring all our children and teenagers are kept safe when online.

Our Year 9 form classes, accompanied by their form tutors and Lay Chaplain, each enjoyed a retreat day with the Just Youth team at the Spiritan Youth Centre in Salford. The purpose of the day was to focus on values, self-esteem and the choices we make in life as a result. This was achieved through a series of games and challenging team activities, culminating in a competitive Trading Trainers Game which simulated the challenges and injustices faced by small family businesses in the developing world today. Thank you to the Just Youth team and to St Cuthbert’s staff who accompanied our students. Two Year 9 classes missed out due to snow so their retreat day with Just Youth will be rescheduled.

Year groups will take part in a service of ashes during their RE lesson on Ash Wednesday and there will be a special Mass at lunchtime. Wednesday will also see the start of our Lenten charity work and morning reflection sessions will recommence in the Chapel. Every child in years 7, 8 & 9 will receive a St Joseph’s Penny box at the start of Lent, to support the work carried out by Caritas.

Year 7 News - Attendance Challenge - Well done to form 7.9, our weekly winners with 95%. Congratulations also to Jack Cavanagh, form 7.6, our winner of the achievement prize draw.

This week’s theme was My Parish and our Enterprise capability was INNOVATION. This half-term’s focus for Year 7 is INDEPENDENT LEARNING.
