Traffic officers take 18 taxis off the road

Police, working with the Vehicle Operators and Standards Agency (VOSA), targeting unroadworthy taxis at Manchester Airport, removed 18 vehicles from the road after finding defects so serious that the taxis could not continue in service.
Licensing officers also suspended the licences of a further four drivers for not complying with vehicle regulations.
Inspector John Armfield, who headed the operation, said: "It is always disappointing to find so many vehicles in such a poor state of repair that they have to be immediately removed from the road. The defects found were all as a result of poor driver/operator maintenance, and operations of this nature demonstrate our commitment to making our roads safer for everyone.”
