Rochdale Sixth Form College go for gold

Date published: 22 November 2012

Thirty students from Rochdale Sixth Form College took part in a challenging hike from Blackstone Edge to Stoodley Pike as part of their training to attain the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

The students braved the thick fog which covered Rochdale and the rest of Greater Manchester to complete the hike - many of the students had never hiked before so it was a great achievement.

James Davidson, Government and Politics Teacher at Rochdale Sixth Form College, said: “We have recruited a good number of students who recognise the value of this qualification and are willing to take part in a wide range of activities available.

"This will place them in good stead for the expedition in summer 2013, and it has given them the enthusiasm to tackle all elements of the programme.”
