College clears the way for new Life Sciences Centre
Date published: 22 November 2012
Hopwood Hall College is spending over £2 million to create a Life Sciences Centre at its Middleton Campus.
This will enable the College to expand its Animal Care and Science courses, offer training in horticulture, tree surgery, ground and turf maintenance and take on 200 more students in due course.
Out will go two acres of overgrown weeds, run-down buildings and under-utilised outdoor space. In come workshops, classrooms and laboratories, refurbished glasshouses, cleared ponds and polytunnels.
Students on the Animal Management courses will also benefit from the addition of lots more farm and exotic animals plus an aviary.
Derek O’Toole, Principal of Hopwood Hall College, said, “We are thrilled that we now have the means to take forward this important development, as part of our on-going programme of estate improvement.
“As well as enabling us to offer more courses to meet demand, we want the new Life Sciences Centre to be a great community resource, with hands-on activities available for children and adults from nearby Greater Manchester.”
The development work will be completed next August, ready for the first intake of students on the new courses.
