St Andrew's, Dearnley and Smithy Bridge
We at St Andrew's, the parish church of Dearnley and Smithy Bridge, would publicly like to thank everyone who helped in any way to the success of our Autumn Fair last Saturday which raised the magnificent sum of £1,090.
Thanks especially to the choir of St Andrew's Primary School, who sang beautifully; to Canon Roger Hill, who formally opened the fair; to everyone who donated items for sale; to all those who worked hard on stalls, on refreshments and in the kitchen and last, but by no means least, to everyone who opened their purses to spend hard-earned money and make it all worthwhile.
Our next social event, on Saturday, December 1, from 6pm onwards, will be a St Andrew's Family Fun Night and Faith Supper which will form part of our activities to celebrate the life of our patron Saint, whose feast day is observed each year on November 30.
Tickets are available from Sheila on 07946 269840 and activities will include a beetle drive, board games and a mini quiz.
On the following Saturday, December 8, in church we will have an Advent quiet afternoon from 2pm to 5pm --- an opportunity through prayer, worship, silence and three talks to stand back from the pressures of December, to reflect on the gift and promise of Advent and to put your preparations for Christmas into a wider perspective.
Speak to Canon Roger if you would like to know more or sign the notice in the parish room if you plan to attend.
This Sunday, November 25, we have Eucharist at 8am, Sung Eucharist at 10am and Holy Baptism at noon.
The parish rota is: lay assistants, S Carmichael, C Cook; readers, I Larder, R Larder; Intercessions, S Knight; sidespersons, E Burrow, J Ainsworth; refreshments, Rhona, Vera, Dorothy.
Dates for Christmas:
December 23, Carol Service at 6pm;
Christmas Eve, Crib and Christingle service, 4pm; Midnight Eucharist, 11pm;
Christmas Day, Said Eucharist with carols.
