Modellers to descend on North West again

Date published: 19 November 2012

A modelling exhibition returns to the North West next year after the successful staging of its inaugural event in March, and Rochdale’s Society of Model & Experimental Engineers (SMEE) will be among those attending.

The Northern Modelling Exhibition, the largest of its kind in the region, welcomed 7,500 people to EventCity, Trafford, in March and will return on Saturday 2 March and Sunday 3 March 2013.

Exhibits from across the modelling spectrum, including model boats, cars, planes, live steam and electric model railways and even rocketry will be on display.

Rochdale SMEE, owner of the model railway track at Springfield Park, Bolton Road, is one of the oldest societies in the country having been founded in 1932.

It was also a founding member of the Northern Association of Model Engineers in 1945, and currently hosts 3.5”, 5” and 7.25” gauge model steam engines.

The event is managed by Meridienne Exhibitions, who also run the popular London Modelling Exhibition.

Exhibition manager Avril Spence stated she is looking forward to bringing Northern modelling enthusiasts together again.

“The North is home to hundreds of keen modellers and hobbyists from all walks of life, and we are very excited to be able to bring them together under one roof for the 2013 Northern Modelling Exhibition,” she said.

“This year’s event was a huge success and we are delighted to be able to bring it back to Manchester. We look forward to welcoming enthusiasts of all ages to the event in March next year.”

Andy Orr, managing director at EventCity, said: “The Northern Modelling Exhibition had an undeniably successful debut at EventCity and we’re thrilled to welcome it back for the second year running.

“It’s an incredibly popular show, now catering for the modelling enthusiasts of the North, and is fast becoming synonymous with its London counterpart.”
