Job rush fears
Date published: 13 November 2012
An EU scheme which could lead to a deluge of young jobless Europeans coming into the country has been condemned MEP Paul Nuttall.
The taxpayer-funded initiative involves the European Commission paying £250 to help hopefuls get to an interview and £830 to cover relocation costs if they are offered a job.
"As if we aren't struggling with our own youth unemployment problems, " said Mr Nuttall, local Euro-MP.
"This scheme for is 18 - 30-year-olds and comes at a time when there are already a million young unemployed Brits. Doubtless thousands will jump at this chance to be financed to get work here, further exacerbating problems for our own folk.
"It is totally wrong that the EU is under-cutting British workers by offering jobs here to unemployed Europeans.
"Immigration is already a major issue but while we remain member of the EU we cannot control our own borders," said Mr Nuttall, UKIP Deputy Leader.
