Christmas lights switch on
Date published: 12 November 2012
Rochdale Town Centre Management is at last ditching the cult of celebrity and instead of paying a Z-lister thousands of pounds for ten minutes on stage, children from the borough will perform the Christmas lights-switch on Saturday 17 November, following a magical lantern parade through the town centre.
Christmas choirs, street theatre, trapeze performances from Skylight Circus, an illuminated hula-hoop show and the trophy for next year’s Rugby League World Cup, among other attractions, will be complemented by a Victorian-themed compere and seasonal food and drink.
The fun starts at 4.30pm with the lantern procession from the top of Yorkshire Street to The Butts where the entertainment will continue on the stage.
