International Inspiration Programme - We received confirmation of the school we have been linked with in Alexandria, Egypt for our forthcoming visit. It is El Zaeem El Sadaat Preparatory School for boys which caters for 708 students. The information received indicates that the school is very keen to work with Redwood in a variety of ways and this initial visit will set the programme running. Our young people have been busily making presents, such as friendship bracelets, producing messages, pod casts on Redwood Radio, DVDs and examples of the great work we are doing at Redwood! Health and Well Being Club for pupils commenced this week.

Thursday evening, 6pm – 8pm. Why not let your son / daughter come along and take part in a variety of health and fitness related activities for pupils of all abilities. This will replace the youth club on Thursday evenings. For more details please contact James Barker, Sports Development Co-ordinator, at school.

2012 Legacy and planning for 2016 in Rio - We have been invited by `Get Set’ to create our time capsule of our wonderful experiences of 2012. This is also a fun way for all our young people in Years 7 and 8 to support those in 2016 to celebrate the games in Rio! There will be some great ideas put forward by staff and students.

Parental Survey 2012 – Details will be sent to parents / carers in the next few weeks to seek your views on the school. The parents’ voice is vital as we strive for further improvements. The dates of the surveys will be: Year 7, 8 and 9 – 15 November Years 10, 11 and Bridging Year – 22 November Years 12, 13 and 14 – 29 November.

Key Stage 4 news - Over the past few weeks both SEB and the AQA art group have been studying the work of Picasso and have produced their own self portraits. As part of ‘Towards Independence’ we went to Hollingworth Lake and walked around the woodland. We picked up leaves so when we got back to school we could see which types of trees there are. 4L made a flying start this week with their Bacon Butty Enterprise! They are selling bacon butties to staff every Friday.

Key stage 3 news - Reading group 2 have discussed and planned a trick to play on a member of staff, just like Mr Twit - our victim has been selected - Staff be aware!!
8B tutor group have made friendship bracelets for Mr Butterworth to take to Egypt to give to students at our International Inspiration school. Every student in KS3 has also been involved in making bracelets.

A mix of students that make up the Enrichment group went to the Science and Industry Museum as part of their colours topic, they all had a great day! The wheelchair users enjoyed going in and out of the sound beam.

Year 7 have been doing Maths in Asda, number work and money handling.
8/9 blue and purple are really enjoying studying Greek Myths and Legends in English.
Charlotte Ben, Lilie and Warren went to watch the Bonfire at Norden Cricket Club being built, they also enjoyed the sparklers.

6th Form news - Group 1 has been out and about in the community as part of their English lesson. They have been making requests and asking questions. Some students went to HMV whilst others visited a travel agent in Rochdale town centre. Later the group met up at the café to request a nice drink.

Sal’s Vocational Education group have been learning about different work places in the community. This week they visited Heywood Sports Village and asked some well prepared questions.

The Community and Environment group have been learning about our local natural environment. On the way to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary the group spotted different animals, such as cows, sheep, horses and birds.

The Manufacturing group have been very busy making items to sell at our next coffee morning. The items that they have chosen to make and sell are bird food-fat balls, Christmas cards and decorations. Fran, the manufacturing tutor said: “The work is coming along really nicely. They are a fantastic and very hardworking group.”
