Recycle for Greater Manchester has received the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM) Award for Communications Campaign of the Year 2012.
Just months after winning the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) Communications Award for 2012, the CIWM revealed that Recycle for Greater Manchester’s Watch Your Waste Week Campaign has won again.
This is the third time the campaign has been selected for an award following the European Week for Waste Reduction Awards (finalist) and the ISWA Awards earlier this year.
The campaign took an innovative approach to communicating waste prevention messages through the promotion of fashion and style to encourage residents to upcycle their clothes and to purchase quality second hand furniture.
The theme of the campaign was Love the Pre-Loved and events included sewing classes, second hand furniture community displays, Love Food Hate Waste Cookery classes and the final event, an upcycled fashion show.
Sheridan Hilton Waste Prevention Manager said: “We’re delighted that our Watch Your Waste Week campaign won best communications campaign at the CIWM awards. We’re delivering a full mix of communications initiatives again this year and Watch Your Waste week will be bigger and better, focusing on textile upcycling."
Councillor Neil Swannick, Chairman of GMWDA said: “Winning this award reflects the diverse and innovative approach we are taking across Greater Manchester to communicate our reduce, re-use and recycle messages. We’re delighted to win as it demonstrates the impact our campaigns are having on our aim of achieving zero waste.”
