Help is available to tackle fuel poverty
Date published: 09 November 2012
Hundreds of people attended an Energy Efficiency Awareness event at KYP to find out more about ways to reduce their energy bills and improve energy efficiency within their homes through the range of grants, discounts, cheaper tariffs, energy efficiency measure,s such as free loft and cavity wall insulation, solar panels and other ways of cutting costs.
The project provides free Energy Advice and information to help to empower the local communities by making them aware about available services and changing energy use behavior at home.
Several organisations showcased their services such as the Greater Manchester Energy Advice Service, Dyson Insulation, NPower, GM Fire Service, Health Trainers, Greenage Solutions and the Foodbank service. All agencies reported a good take-up of services by the residents who attended their stalls and said that the event exceeded their expectations.
A spokesman for Dyson Insulation said: "Many people were unaware of all the offers and funding available, so it was a brilliant increasing awareness exercise. People were happy to receive information on the upcoming ECO grant and the funding that is available - especially heating."
Several residents also said that they had no idea that so much help was available during these difficult financial times, especially when the fuel costs are increasing.
KYP is now planning to deliver similar awareness raising event in the other derived parts of the borough in the near future.
