Electrical appliance fire in Middleton

Date published: 09 November 2012

Fire fighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called out to tackle a fire involving an electrical appliance in the Boarshaw area of Middleton.

At around 11.00pm three fire crews from Heywood and Blackley fire stations were sent out to a property on Clough Road, Boarshaw.

A tumble dryer in the garage next to the property had caught fire due to a build-up of fluff.

The fire was out when firefighters arrived.

Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor David Acton said: "A serious fire can start in just a few seconds so it is important to check that electrical items are in good working order and used properly.

"And with more than 600 electrical fires in Greater Manchester over the last 12 months sadly they are not a rarity.

"If a fire does occur, a working smoke alarm could save you vital seconds to save yourself and your property."
