Asda distribution centre opens in Rochdale
Date published: 08 November 2012
Today marked the opening of the new Asda Distribution Centre at Kingsway Business Park, Rochdale.
The Mayor helped officially open the new 43.5 acre site and was joined by colleagues from Asda and Wincanton, providers of award-winning supply chain services and responsible for operating the new distribution centre.
200 new employees will work at the centre, with employment eventually predicted to rise to 800 jobs over the next five years.
The massive site will initially service 49 Asda stores across the M62 corridor and will support growth beyond 2030.
Asda Distribution Director, Ian Stansfield, said: "I’m delighted to officially open this landmark Rochdale Distribution Centre and guaranteeing world class logistics for Asda in the North West.”
Guy Elliott, Managing Director Contract Logistics at Wincanton, said: “The official opening is a big moment for all the partners involved in this project and, make no mistake; this will be one of Europe’s leading logistical operations. I’m delighted that it’s going to be supporting the local and regional economy for many years to come.”
