Rochdale students do their bit for community learning

Date published: 05 November 2012

Twenty A Level students studying Health and Social Care at Rochdale Sixth Form College did their bit for the community last week, volunteering to help out at a Family Fun Day at local arts and heritage centre – Touchstones.

The initiative was designed to get families together, and encourage community learning in new and exciting ways.

Working alongside Touchstones staff, the team of Rochdale Sixth Form College student volunteers were on hand to encourage children aged between two and 12 to get involved in the array of craft activities on offer; from science experiments to puppet making and knitting.

Nazia Kausar, Health and Social Care teacher at Rochdale Sixth Form College, comments: “This event was invaluable, both to the families attending and to our students.

"Creative activities is a module within their A Level subject, so the students were able to put into practice the theories we’ve been learning about back in the classroom.

"With around 400 people attending on the day, it really was an all-round success – and it pays tribute to our students that we’ve been asked to come back for this event next year.”
