16-year-old Middleton boy fatally injured

A 16-year-old Middleton boy was fatally injured in a fail-to-stop collision.
At about 6.30pm on Saturday 3 November 2012, police in Bury were called to Stand Lane in Radcliffe following reports a teenage boy had been in collision with a car.
Officers attended and established a scene outside the Hawthorn Hotel where the collision occurred.
The 16-year-old boy, who was out with friends, was crossing Stand Lane when he collided with a silver Peugeot which did not stop at the scene. The car was later recovered near to Bury town centre but the occupants were not present.
Inquiries are now ongoing to trace all those who were on board.
The young boy sustained a serious, life-threatening head injury and is currently being treated in hospital. His family are aware and are with him in hospital.
Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector Amber Waywell said: "We are still in the very early stages of this investigation so I do not want to speculate on what may have happened until we have spoken to as many witnesses as possible and established the exact circumstances.
"What I can say is that this young boy has suffered a very serious head injury and remains in hospital in a critical condition.
"The car involved, a silver Peugeot, did not stop at the scene and when the vehicle was later found, none of the occupants were present so our focus is now on finding those who were on board. I would therefore appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened, or perhaps saw this car being driven at high speed or even abandoned in the town centre to come forward immediately.
"I would also appeal directly to those who were in the car to make yourselves known to police.
"Our thoughts are with this young man and his family who are with him in hospital and a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to provide support to the boy's family at what is clearly a very difficult time."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
