Former Policeman and Lib Dem Police Chief candidate, Matt Gallagher, has said Greater Manchester Police could find up to £1.3million to increase police visibility by working cooperatively with other Police Forces to reduce energy bills. Mr Gallagher’s plan already has the thumbs up from Lib Dem Energy Secretary, Ed Davey MP.
Mr Gallagher is encouraging Greater Manchester Police to take advantage of ‘Cooperative Switching’ so that local police forces work together to negotiate a better energy deal with suppliers. Last year GMP spent £4,333,792 on Gas and Electricity. Energy Secretary Ed Davey has said savings of up to 30% can be achieved through organisations negotiating together. Mr Gallagher has said that he would use the potential £1.3million to increase police visibility.
Matt Gallagher, who has 30 years experience of fighting crime in Greater Manchester, said: “As a former police officer I know that Greater Manchester Police can find savings to increase police visibility. When I met with the Energy Secretary on Monday I was delighted to get his backing for my plan to reduce the force’s energy bill. I want to cut inefficiency and bureaucracy at Greater Manchester Police to increase the number of ‘bobbies on the beat’”
