Date published: 31 October 2012
Planning permission has been granted for the Metrolink park and ride facility on the former depot/vehicle storage yard bounded by Hare Street and Lincoln Street.
The work site currently being established in advance of construction works starting shortly.
Over the coming months North Midland Construction will be carrying out work on site during weekdays from 8am-6pm.
A spokesman said: "All the work will be carried out in line with TfGM’s Code of Construction Practice (COCP). This includes measures to ensure that safety procedures are followed and to control activities which may affect local residents and businesses including noise, working hours and pollution.
"We anticipate that the construction of the park and ride scheme will be complete by early 2013."
The park and ride facility will provide over 200 parking spaces. It will include features to deter crime such as lighting, CCTV and secure boundary fencing. The facility will be free to use for all holders of valid Metrolink or rail tickets.
