Woman sexually assaulted in a subway

A 21-year-old woman was followed from Rochdale bus station and into the subway at Manchester Road, which leads to Asda supermarket.

While in the subway the offender, believed to be a teenage boy, approached the woman and sexually assaulted her

The victim fought with her attacker and managed to kick him causing him to run off.

The attack happened at about 11.20pm on Thursday 25 October 2012.

He is described as being an Asian teenager, possibly as young as 14, about 5ft 2in tall, of medium to small build and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Russ Clarke said: "This was a horrific and violent attack which has left the victim feeling badly shaken up.

"Specially trained officers are offering support to the victim and a number of enquiries have been made as part of our investigation.

"However, I urge any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the offender, to get in touch.

"While this appears to be an isolated incident, we would advise that women walking alone should avoid poorly lit areas where possible and be alert to their surroundings."
