The power may be with you!

Date published: 25 October 2012

With energy bills set to rise again just in time for winter, Rochdale borough residents are being offered the chance to save money by joining a big power switch-over.

Rochdale Council has joined forces with Oldham Council in a collective bulk-buying scheme which could cut household gas and electric bills.

The scheme works by combining the buying power of as many households as possible when negotiating new energy deals with suppliers.

It’s easy to get involved – just visit http://www.rochdale.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=7692 and fill in the online form before 25 November. You’ll be asked to complete a few details about your current gas and electricity supplier and current usage.

An auction will then be held at the end of November potentially resulting in a new, cheaper offer to households. It’s then up to individuals to decide whether or not to switch.

It’s not just individual households that will benefit from switching – up to £10 will be paid into a fund for future projects that benefit local communities for every household that accepts the offer.

Insulating walls and lofts can also play a big part in reducing fuel bills and, for a limited period, a free scheme is on offer for borough residents. The Get Me Toasty offer ends on 30 November so register now for a free survey at http://www.getmetoasty.com/ or call 0800 009 3363.
