Was that a birdie?

Members of North Manchester Golf Club can certainly claim not to be tee’d off with their club captains, after they raised a fantastic amount of cash for the charity.

Over £2,250 has been donated to The Pennine Acute Hospital’s In Your Hands
Appeal and the Link4pink Appeal at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The In Your Hands Appeal is looking to raise £200,000 for the new purpose-built women and children’s ‘super centre’ at The Royal Oldham Hospital, which is due for completion in December this year.

Money from the appeal will go towards additional equipment to enhance the new unit. Link4Pink raises money for the Victoria Breast Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The captain and lady caption for 2012, Andy Bradburn and Ann Fallows chose the two charities as they are very close to their hearts – Link4Pink, as a very close friend of Ann’s has recently received treatment for breast cancer, and the In Your Hands Appeal, as Andy’s twin girls spent some time in St James Hospital in Leeds special care baby unit in 2000.

Starting their fundraising year off in April with a fairly tame salsa evening, the duo
then raised their game as they opted to take part in a tandem parachute jump at
Cockerham air field, near Lancaster.

Jumping in perfect conditions, Ann was last out of the plane.

Ann, who works in The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s information management and technology department, said: “It was absolutely incredible; like nothing I have ever experienced before. I felt excited watching the other people jump during the day, although I have to admit that my stomach did turn over when I first jumped out of the plane, strapped to my instructor! There is a 45 second freefall before the parachute opens and that must be one of the only occasions in my life when I have been silent! I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to get back in the plane and do it all over again.”
