Armed robbery at store

Date published: 20 October 2012

Armed robbers stole cash and cigarettes during a raid on a Middleton store.

Shortly before 8.55pm on Friday 19 October 2012, four men armed with knives entered a store on Jubilee Road.

They threatened staff before stealing cash and cigarettes.

The robbers escaped in a silver car, possibly a Toyota Avensis.

A stolen Toyota Avensis, which may have been used in the robbery, was found abandoned on Church Road, Middleton a short time later.

The offenders, who had their faces covered and wore dark clothing, are described as being white, about 5ft 7in tall.

Detective Chief Inspector Sara Wallwork, said: “Four men have threatened staff and customers for relatively little reward.

“Thankfully no one has been injured and I want to reassure the local business community and residents that we have launched an investigation to try and establish who is responsible.

“We think the stolen Avensis found on Church Road was used as the initial getaway car so I am keen to hear from anyone who saw it being abandoned and the offenders either leaving on foot or getting into another car.

“If anyone else has any other information about this robbery then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4644, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
