Massive reduction in burglary but violent crime on the increase

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has achieved reductions for three of the four targets for crime reduction, outlined in the 2012-13 Policing Plan, however, violent crime has increased.
- The percentage of people who perceive a high level of anti-social behaviour in their area is 4.1% down from 7.2% the previous year.
- At the end of August 2012, Rochdale recorded a 12.1% reduction in victim-based crimes, which means 1922 fewer victims compared to the previous year. This was higher than the Force-wide reduction of 8.7%.
For the same period, an increase of 3.1% was recorded for violent crime in Rochdale. This was slightly higher than the Force-wide increase in violence, which was +4.6%.
- Stealing in Rochdale was reduced by 14.3% which has meant 1275 fewer victims at the end of August 2012.
- One of the largest reductions was made to domestic burglary which was reduced by 27.7%. This has meant 516 fewer victims of domestic burglary in Rochdale, compared to the previous year.
