Policing not overseas aid
Date published: 16 October 2012
Prospective UKIP Police and crime Commissioner for Lancashire, Rob Drobny, today hit out at the "shocking" revelation that more is to be spent on overseas aid than on the police.
It has emerged that by 2014 taxpayers will be spending £12.6billion a
year on aid while the police budget is projected to fall to £12.1billion following cuts of approximately 20%.
"This is a terrible indictment of this Government's attitude to its citizens. They have a duty to keep them safe but here they are cutting back on the police while lavishing funds on aid to countries, some of whom don't even want or need it," said Mr Drobny.
"David Cameron boasts about vaccination programmes saving lives abroad but we have all read reports of vast sums going to countries which have space programmes and aircraft carriers and to undemocratic autocratic states in Africa where it is unlikely to reach the needy.
"This situation must be rectified and taxpayers money spent where they would wish it spent - on services in this country such as the police," said Mr Drobny.
