Fashion Show Fundraising

Parents/carers are invited to a Fashion Show on Thursday 26 November in the 6th form Social Area, 7pm. Ticket are £3 and all proceeds will go to support the residential trips for our 6th form students. For more details please contact the 6th form department.

Student Council Elections

Congratulations to those young people who have been elected as Student Council members for 2012 / 13.

Parents Evening KS3

What a very positive response to the KS3 parents meetings to discuss how your son / daughter had settled into the new classes. Many thanks to parents / carers for your support!

KS4 Pupils join the Army for the day

A group of KS4 pupils spent a day with the army at their barracks they came back into school with stories galore on the activities they took part in! A day to remember for those lucky young people!

Staff fundraising project

A group of staff took part in the `Survival of the Fittest' to raise funds for a new hoist which could be used in the swimming pool. Any amount or donation is greatly appreciated.

World Champion

Parents / carers who attended the Sports Awards in July will remember that Jamie Kelly, a former pupil, was representing GB in the swimming special needs games in Puerto Rico. Jamie won 3 golds and is now a triple champion ! It is hoped that Jamie will come into school in the near future and show his medals to all in school. An inspiration to us all!

Another busy week in Key Stage 4, pupils have been working hard both in and out of school, a group of pupils had the fabulous opportunity to attend a Army careers exhibition event in Liverpool. All pupils were excellently behaved and a pleasure to take, it was a great day out and lots of fun.

Austin said: “I loved everything, but going inside the tank was the best!” Brandon was the press-up challenge winner completing 20 press-ups whist wearing weighted body armour and backpack, well done Brandon!

4M have been busy getting their mini enterprise up and running this week. They have set up a smoothies and milkshake stall on a Monday, in KS4 Lifeskills at break time only 25p each, what a bargain! Chocolate and banana are available now with more flavours to be added soon.

Cook and Eat group set themselves a challenge, they decided to make a banquet. Not only did the make one dish, but they made four, Their feast consisted of two Chicken Sagg curries, 1 spicy and 1 mild, Egg Dahl and Chapattis.

Usual KS3 activities have continued this week; a group enjoyed horse riding, some went shopping for breakfast and snack time foods and swimming - as always a great success and loved by all students in the lilac room. Matthew has settled well into school and his new class and often talks about his happy face! In Matthews words ‘happy chappy’ Sid and James the Caretakers are busy with DIY in the sensory room creating a masterpiece to allow us to decorate the room with curtains and other sensory materials!

Year 7 went to McDonalds and were given free food!

Rochdale Music service came into school to work with pupils, they explored many instruments and students had an opportunity to trial some!

8/9 Blue explored a variety of skills to produce a piece of paper sculpture, working on Salvador Dali. Students created a more surrealistic piece of work!

8/9 purple are doing Mexican weaving—Josh said ‘it’s alright—but hard!’ Yr 7 Blue are making key rings in Design and Technology using various equipment likes files, coping saw and needle flites!

6th Form

This term the Travel and Tourism group are researching different types of local tourist attractions This week the group joined up with the Care group and visited the Social Lounge ‘s animal centre in Heywood.

Each Friday, the Creative Textiles groups 5 and 6, have been visiting the Caribbean. They have been exploring the colourful fabrics, tasting different exotic fruits and dancing to the music.

The Student Council Elections have taken place. Students were given the opportunity to vote for themselves or others to represent them as the 6th Form Voice in the Student Council.

Congratulations to Aiden, Tommy D, Sandra, Declan L and Maria who have been elected as Student Council members. Well done to Dayle for making it as our reserve Council member.

The Student Council has a very important role to play in both the 6th Form Student Council and as part of the Redwood School Council.

Matthew’s Home Management group have been making drop scones. The group had lots of fun, preparing, weighing, making and tasting the delicious snacks.
