Nobel prize for EU ‘inappropriate’

Liberal Democrat Euro-MP Chris Davies has described the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the EU as ‘inappropriate’.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the prize to the EU for its work in preserving peace on the continent in the decades since World War 2.
Davies, who represents Rochdale in the European Parliament said,
“I'd be pleased for the EU to win the Peace Prize if I thought it appropriate.
“But despite all the talk of a common EU foreign policy we are punching well below our weight in world affairs. There is much need for improvement.
"The values of democracy and liberty have promoted change for the better, not least in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell, but we do not deserve awards for the events of nearly 25 years ago.
"We should be judged by our actions not by our aspirations."
