Almost 200 works of art created by people who live or work in the borough of Rochdale have gone on display at Touchstones Rochdale.
The People’s Art exhibition was opened by the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor James Gartside who paid tribute to the “phenomenally good” standard of work exhibited. With “no two works the same” he said it was a delight to come and see the exhibition.
Completely filling the walls of two of Touchstones Rochdale’s art galleries, and with entries from as young as five years old, the art works include paintings, photographs, sculpture and even animated film. Link4Life’s Art Gallery Officer, Yvonne Hardman, curated the exhibition. She said: “The exhibition really shows the wealth of talent that we have here in the borough and it is great to see so many people taking part this year.”
The exhibition runs until Saturday 24 November and Touchstones Rochdale is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. Entry is free and includes the ‘Art Paddock’ with creative activities for budding young artists.
Visitors to the exhibition can vote for their favourite artwork and also for their favourite poem with shortlisted poems on display from the ‘People’s Poetry’ competition, as part of the celebrations for the International Year of Co-operatives.
