16-year-old raped in Middleton
Date published: 06 October 2012
Extra police patrols are being carried out in Greater Manchester after a 16-year-old girl was abducted and raped by two men as she walked home.
The attack happened as the girl walked through Hilton Walk, Middleton, between 10:00 and 10.30pm on 29 September.
The men grabbed her, dragged her into a white transit van and raped her before letting her go near to Croft Gates Road, police said.
The two men are described as white and aged in their late 30s or early 40s.
Det Insp Ian Harratt said: "This incident will obviously shock and appal members of the local community. However, I want to reassure residents that incidents of this nature are rare and extra police patrols have been placed in the area.
"We are working very hard to identify and arrest the offenders and I would ask anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible."
He advised members of the public to "remain vigilant and take sensible precautions", such as staying to well-lit areas and not to walk home alone after a night out.
