Deafness Research UK’s Bionic Ear Show is calling for support from the North West as it aims to win in the Best Health project in the National Lottery Awards. Voting is now open and the public throughout Merseyside and Manchester can vote for the Show by calling 0844 836 9701 or by logging on to www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards

The charity received “overwhelming” support from the North West to make the finals and is hoping a similar level of public backing will see the award-winning Bionic Ear Show scoop the trophy, the £2,000 cash prize and more importantly, secure a national platform at the star-studded awards ceremony on BBC One for the millions of people throughout the UK suffering from hearing loss.

The National Lottery Awards recognise the impact Lottery funded projects like the Bionic Ear Show have on local communities and the Bionic Ear Show is one of only three projects making it through in the Best Health Project category in the search to find the UK’s favourite Lottery Funded project.

Presented by former teacher Tobin May, Deafness Research UK’s flagship Bionic Ear Show is an educational, interactive and fun performance that tours community venues and schools throughout the UK, educating people about how precious their hearing is and what can be done to protect it.

So far this year the Bionic Ear Show has visited the University of Liverpool, St Joseph’s Roman Catholic School in Manchester in March and Sandbach School in Cheshire in May to name just a few. The Bionic Ear Show has also visited Blackpool and Stockport, with more visits to businesses, schools and community groups in the North West scheduled for later in the year.

‘National Lottery funding has helped us educate over 30,000 people throughout the UK already this year and our appearance in the finals will raise the profile of our work,’ said Vivienne Michael, Chief Executive of Deafness Research UK.

‘For Deafness Research UK, it is less about winning and more a chance to put deafness and tinnitus on a national stage and do more to improve the quality of life for everyone. We are deeply grateful for all the public support in the North West that has put us in with a chance of winning and we hope people will vote for us one more time in September.’

Voting started on Tuesday 11 September and ends at midnight on Sunday 28 October, so people have six weeks in which to register their vote.
