St John with St Michael CE Primary School in Shawforth have had a full week of celebrating Art.
The school invited a Willow Weaving Artist in who showed the children the art of willow weaving and the children have made fish and stars to be displayed outside.
Class 3 are looking at the legend of The Willow Pattern and they also decorated their own porcelein plates in the style of the famous design.
The school were joined by some African drummers and dancers, which the children throughly enjoyed learning routines and finding drum rhythems. They showed off what they had learnt in a celebratory assembly which parents attended. Each class has also had ongoing art projects.
Class 4 visited Whitworth Historical Museum in Whitworth and they based their sketches and acrylic canvas art work their observations of items in there.
The artist Kate Whiteford worked alonside the year 5 and 6 children to do some wonderful charcoal sketches and Mrs Garner ran an art competition based on the theme of "The World Around You" the children could enter a piece of art made from any medium they wished.
It was very sucessfull with 41 entries - but these will be judged next week with the Mayor and Mayoress of Whitworth, the grand prize is a digital camera.
