Shutting up shop on bad security design
Date published: 28 September 2012
New guidance for businesses on how to keep their premises secure without altering the character and vibrancy of the borough’s high streets is now available.
Window displays and shop fronts have a key role to play in attracting customers and enhancing the appearance of busy town centres.
But getting the right balance between maintaining the visual attractiveness of high streets and making sure premises are safe, especially in the evenings, can be challenging.
Roller shutters and grilles are increasingly being used for security but can make areas appear less attractive when businesses are closed and stop people being able to window-shop.
Rochdale Borough Council has produced a document offering advice and guidance to businesses to help them maintain both their security and their contribution to the richness and viability of town centres.
