Middleton Cemetery displays mark of excellence
Date published: 28 September 2012
Middleton’s Boarshaw Cemetery has been given the official seal of approval at a green flag raising ceremony.
The cemetery is one of eight green flag sites in our borough, all of which have retained the standard for a second year.
The awards are given to parks and cemeteries which reach the gold standard in a number of areas including management, facilities and community involvement.
The Cemetery underwent an ambitious extension earlier this year and now has additional burial space for the next 15 years. New benches, water taps and footpaths were also introduced into the cemetery as part of the programme. A programme of tree planting will be completed later in the year
David Nelson, Chairman of the Friends of Boarshaw Cemetery, said: “We’re delighted that the cemetery has retained its green flag. By continuing to work with the council to keep it in tip top condition we can ensure that it continues to be a pleasant place for people to come and visit their loved ones.”
